Guidelines And Limitations
Artists may submit work of any type of media (painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, video, sound, poetry, etc.) All entries must be original artworks made by the artist submitting the work. Please do not submit projects made from pre-fabricated kits. Artwork cannot exceed 4 feet in any direction and the weight may not exceed 30 pounds.
Artists can submit up to three (3) entries. If one work of art consists of more than one individual unit (such as a diptych or triptych), those units will be counted together as one (1) entry. If an entry has multiple identical units for sale (such as a music CD, or book), it will count as a single entry; one copy will be reserved for display during the exhibition, but the artist may bring multiple copies to sell during the exhibition.
100% of profits from the sale of exhibited works will go to the artist. Work does not have to be on sale to be included in the exhibition.
Delivery And Preparation Of Work
Artists are responsible for delivering their work to the gallery and for retrieving the work (if unsold) at the end of the exhibition. All admitted artworks must be delivered to the Shell Gallery at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center on May 12, 2022 between the hours of 9:30am and 5pm. If this is not possible, please contact the Curator of this event, Kelsey Livingston at [email protected], to make other arrangements. Additionally, all unsold works will need to be picked up at the close of the reception on May 14, at 8pm or the following day, May 15 between 9am – 5pm. If your work is accepted into the show, and you agree to exhibit, then you agree to these terms. Any artwork that is left at the gallery will be considered abandoned after seven (7) days and discarded.
All art must be ready to hang/display in the gallery (paintings must have appropriate mounting hardware, photographs must be framed, etc.). Neither NAMI Baton Rouge nor The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge will be responsible for any damage incurred due to improper preparation of artwork. The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge reserves the right to refuse artwork that is delivered in a state that is not considered acceptable for hanging. If you are unsure how to best prepare your piece please contact the Curator, Kelsey Livingston at [email protected] to discuss.
Application
The application materials must be sent to the curator by 11:59 pm on March 22, 2022. All materials must be completed and submitted in order for an application to be considered. Submissions can be made via email to [email protected]. Please include “Mind’s Eye Application” in the heading of your email.
The application includes the following:
Completed entry form
Limit images to three (3) entries per person (see “Guidelines and Limitations” for more information)
Images for artworks submitted
If submitting as files via email, please follow the following format:
- Image files must be in jpeg format.
- Image files must be labeled with the artist’s name and the artwork’s title.
For example, a work titled Self Portrait by John Doe would be labeled as such: JohnDoe_SelfPortrait.jpg
- If necessary, artists may also submit a second image of the artwork in order to show a detail or an important alternate view. In this case, please include the term, “detail,” at the end of the image file name. For Example, John Doe needed to submit a detail image of his work, Self Portrait, he would label it as such: jpg
Because of the limited space in the gallery, the curator will select only some entries to be part of the exhibition. Every participating artist will be invited to show at least one (1) of his/her submitted pieces in the exhibition, and additional entries may be included at the curator’s discretion. When the curator has selected which of your pieces will be included in the exhibition, notification will be sent to you by email by Friday, March 28, 2022
